Microsoft to open first data centre in NZ

Covid-19 is changing the way we work - companies around the globe are making rapid transitions to cloud services as employees work remotely to curb the pandemic.

Early May, tech giant Microsoft has responded to the soaring demand for cloud services by announcing its plans to establish their first data centre in New Zealand. This will be the latest addition to the 59 data centres they have in other regions worldwide.

The new data centre will provide NZ businesses and organizations improved local access to Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365 and Power Platform, plus added security to storing customer and sensitive data locally.

Microsoft aims to accelerate digital transformation opportunities and make broader investment in NZ, including reducing environmental footprint of the data centre and skill training for future employment.

The new data centre’s location and building time-frame is yet to be determined and subject to approval from the Overseas Investment Office. We will be watching this space closely to provide you more details!
