We all want to be the best, no? But what does being the best entail?
Do we need to be the biggest? The Strongest? The Smartest? The most relevant? Do we need to be different?
Well, of course these are all rhetorical questions and indeed have obvious answers. However, in the business world today, with technology rapidly changing and trends coming and going faster than the money in my wallet, to be the best means we also need to be the fastest. Naturally, being the fastest is easier said than done, and from a “company’s” standpoint being fast starts internally.
Windows 8 is operating system (OS) for the future company. It is fresh, new, exciting, and there is no doubt that Microsoft is trying to get a step ahead of it’s competitors in the race for the future of computing.
But do businesses need this new OS now?
Well, from what Microsoft are showing us they have no intention of going back on what they have created with Windows 8 so why should you stay behind? But, to be fair, it’s all up to you and indeed comes down to a matter of opinion and preference. It is important that you weigh up the pros and cons of such a transition, and if you choose to go through with it you really need to make sure you and your company are ready and willing to learn and adapt.
How can Windows 8 potentially help businesses stay ahead?
The emerging trend of BYOD (bring your own device) in companies is becoming ever more relevant, and Microsoft have acknowledged this as an opportunity and are pushing their efforts towards creating ‘one system for every device’. If you are unaware of the idea behind ‘BYOD’, essentially, it refers to the trend towards businesses embracing mobility, where employees are encouraged to bring their own mobile and computing devices which unchain them from their desks and allow them to work more freely and even ‘on the move’. With the encouragement of employee mobility at work and use of wireless networks, businesses are beginning to find that they are slashing costs and are becoming much more efficient. Windows 8 (especially its upcoming “8.1″ update), acts as a great facilitator for the adoption of BYOD in your business which can help you cut costs, keep efficient, and more importantly: stay ahead.

If you purchase Windows 8 pro, then the downgrades rights for Windows software states that you are able to downgrade to Windows 7. This is a great opportunity for businesses to ‘try out’ the new Windows OS. So if you are still unsure of whether you will take a liking to Windows 8, then you can purchase Windows 8 pro, or a product pre-loaded with Windows 8 pro, knowing you can downgrade safely and legitimately.

Bottom line:
If you’re considering taking on the new Windows OS, it is important that you go into the transition with open arms and a positive attitude. It is also especially important that you and everyone in your company are prepared to learn and discover. Windows 8 and 8.1 has the potential to be your new best friend, but it is always going to be up to you whether Windows 8 will win your heart, and your device over.
