Should you upgrade your computer routinely every four years, or simply on a case by case basis?
It can be hard to put time aside to think about upgrading. Budgeting is another complication.
Having a budget in place to replace a PC every so often helps and means less stress when computers are inevitably outmoded by more complicated applications and higher demands on speed.
Productivity can be hampered by poor performance or regular PC hangs and reboots; often no one is told of the problem and a staff member may accept shortcomings in information technology which really should be dealt with.
New PCs can usually be bought with an inclusive 3 year parts warranty for very little cost and that means replacement parts can be easily fitted.
PC’s don’t need to belong to one individual forever, you will have some demanding users who must have speed and power so you could replace these some PCs regularly and pass the old ones on to less-demanding users and/or new staff.
Here are some of the key indicators to consider.
- Ask your users (usually staff) to list issues they have.
- Find out if your server is nearing full capacity, or is the operating system current enough?
- Work out whether your business plan allows for the new capital to be acquired
- Most offices give people multiple monitors these days. That’s something to consider.
- Software ages very quickly. Is it time to invest in new software
